Advisory Boards

The Seminole County Board of County Commissioners recognizes the importance of volunteerism in effective and progressive County government. Following is a list of continuing and long-term Boards and Committees to which the Board of County Commissioners make appointments. An asterisk (*) denotes financial disclosure requirement.

Board members should have an interest or experience in the area of service desired and the necessary expertise to accomplish the goals and objectives of that Board. Many of the Boards require financial disclosure and, if selected, the appointee would be required by Section 112.3145, Florida Statutes, to file a Form 1, Statement of Financial Interests, with the Supervisor of Elections within 30 days of appointment. Anyone interested in serving on a Board or Committee must complete an Appointment Information Form available through the office of the Board of County Commissioners. Agriculture Advisory Committee meets on an as-needed basis to review policies affecting agriculture interests in the County. Organizes annual Farm Tour.

Animal Control Board meets quarterly for discussion or issues of interest to countywide animal services, and on an as-needed basis to hear and reconcile fierce, dangerous or vicious animal complaints.

Board of Adjustment* meets once a month to consider requests for special exceptions and variances to zoning regulations.

Central Florida Expressway Authority Board meets on a monthly basis. The Board of Directors is comprised with local elected officials, who consider modes of transportation within the right-of-way of the expressway system. The Board of Directors upholds the organizations strong ethics policies.

Code Enforcement Board meets once a month to consider notices issued in violation of Seminole County Codes including, but not limited to, business tax receipts, zoning, building, fire and sign codes.

Committee on Aging meets as needed to provide input and recommendations to the Board of County Commissioners regarding issues, policies and services which will promote and enhance the quality of life for senior residents of Seminole County.

Community Services Block Grant Advisory Board meets every other month to review and make recommendations regarding all community service block grant related items.

Contractor Examiners Board* meets on an as needed basis to hear competency complaints, make recommendations to the BCC on code revisions and other pertinent items.

Fred R. Wilson Memorial Law Library meets as needed to conduct business as necessary to establish, furnish, equip, operate and maintain the law library. Membership requirement is to be an attorney at law and Seminole County resident.

Historical Commission meets once a month to discuss matters of historical interest concerning Seminole County including the preservation of historical material, of placement of historical markers, and the operation of the Historical Museum.

Library Advisory Board meets monthly to monitor and oversee the operation of the Seminole County public library system.

Local Health Planning Council Board of Directors is a healthcare planning agency that meets on a monthly basis to provide research, education, and program support to improve healthcare delivery and outcomes in the East Central Florida District. The District encompasses Seminole, Brevard, Orange, and Osceola Counties.

Metro Plan Transportation Study Citizens' Advisory Committee meets on a monthly basis and is comprised of representatives from the metropolitan area. The Committee ensures the public has the opportunity to review and evaluate all proposed transportation plans and programs by expressing opinions, concerns, and recommendations to the Board on behalf of the regions they represent.

Parks and Preservation Advisory Committee meets monthly on the 4th Wednesday, 6:30 p.m. at the Seminole County Softball Complex to make recommendations to the BCC on future growth, development and use of County parks and recreational programs.

Planning and Zoning Commission meets once a month to hear and make recommendations to the BCC on proposed zoning and land use changes.

Seminole County Industrial Development Authority meets monthly to consider and make recommendations on matters relative to industrial development and industrial bonding requests.

Seminole County Port Authority meets once a month to conduct business on items relative to the operation and maintenance of the Port of Sanford.

Seminole County Tourism Development Council meets the second Thursday every month at 3pm as an advisory body that recommends purposes, funding, acquisitions, promotions and other activities relative to tourism development tax funds. Please visit the tourism website for more information.

Value Adjustment Board meets on as needed basis to hear taxpayers objections to assessments placed on taxable property and decides the correctness of the assessment, either overturning or upholding the determination of the property appraiser. The membership of the VAB shall be as follows: Two members of the Seminole County School Board, one citizen appointed by the School Board who must own a business occupying commercial space located with the school district.
